More About Math Team

Have you ever
wondered what Math Team was all about? Well, I did, and so I asked past and
soon-to-be members Nick Jones and Brogan Flitter about what was involved. The
math team competitions involve four individual rounds- A, B, C, and D. Each
round has something different that is the specialty. After those four rounds,
there is a team round. There are two teams; JV, and Varsity. Their first
practice is on October 8th, and they want all the help they can get.
Once Brogan and Nick told me the basics, I asked them more personal questions
about Math Team.
The Charger: What’s
the best part about Math Team?
Brogan: Miss Timmerman’s snacks!
Nick: Hanging out with
people on the bus and during practice.
C: Do you think
Miss Timmerman prepares you well for the meets?
B: Yes. She asks us
lots of questions from past meets.
N: Yes, if there are
new concepts to learn, she teaches us how to do them as best she can.
C: What’s the worst
part about math team?
B: Being on the JV
team and being in events that you don’t know as well.
N: When time runs out.
C: Which days do
you practice?
B: After school on
Mondays.
N: Monday.
C: What would you
tell someone to promote math team to them?
B: It doesn’t matter
whether you’re good or bad at math.
N: There are cookies
and cupcakes! We need more underclassmen to keep it going, though.
C: What is
something important that you learned from your past experiences in math team?
B: Read the question
really carefully. Plus, drawings help.
N: New types of math
that I never would have learned before.
C: What is
something you’re looking forward to in Math Team this year?
B: Miss Timmerman’s
snacks and learning new things.
N: Improving from last
year.
C: What’s missing
from Math Team?
B: More people
N: More people.
In conclusion,
I want to tell you on behalf of the math team, to try it! You may like it, and
even if you attend a few practices, there’s no reason why you can’t decide that it isn’t for
you. Remember, the first math team practice starts on October 8th.
