Have you been bringing your
offerings during homeroom chapel? As you have probably noticed, the mission
offering for this second semester is going toward giving relief to the victims
of Hurricane Sandy.
Although much damage has been done, the money we give at
the end of the year will aid many people while touching their lives with the
Gospel of Christ.
Hurricane
Sandy occurred nearly four months ago. Causing over $75 billion worth of
damage, it became the second costliest hurricane in the United States’ history.
It was devastating. Even before Sandy occurred, however, WELS Christian Aid and
Relief, the program through which our money will go through, was preparing for
it. This program has continued since then, giving relief to congregations and
communities. So in short, the money we donate will be given to WELSChristian
Aid and Relief whereupon they will distribute it to congregations and
communities.
As you
may remember from our November issue, Amy Santelman told her story from
Hurricane Sandy. She said, “I had so many people calling me and texting me and
praying for me and that meant so much. I got to witness the love my family and
friends have for me and that was very touching.” Our mission offering is a
chance for us to spread God’s love.
Student
Council decided upon this mission offering because of the beliefs and mission
of the program. Mr. Buboltz explained: “It is on a much bigger scale than just
relief, but it is also mission work.” In providing congregations and
communities with aid and relief, the kingdom of God is being spread. May we
love our neighbor with all our heart as we offer up our gifts to Him.
