The American Literature and Composition and Speech classes were asked to participate in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy Contest even though all students could have participated. They had to write an essay on the topic, “Why I’m Optimistic About Our Nation’s Future.” The requirements of this essay were to write a 3-5 minute speech on the topic. Then from the essay’s that were written, Mr. Biedenbender, Miss Monthie, and Mr. Koepsell voted for the winners. Fourth place, Rebekka Olsen, got 25 dollars; third place, Jake Grunewald, 50 dollars; second place, Claire Boeder, 75 dollars; and first place, Aaron Buch,100 dollars.
