Ceramics Final Project

Ceramics 2 is a second semester class. At the end of the year each member of the class is expected to complete a final project. Recently I went to the Ceramics room to talk to a few students to see how their end of the year project is going. I asked them three questions: what is it, how long will it take you, and why did you choose this as your final project?

Sam Genelin: Duck

If you know Sam, you probably could have guessed what he wanted to make for his final project; he loves ducks. His duck will be very in-depth. The features include legs, feet, and outspread wings. This project will take him a combined 30-40 class periods to complete. When he is finished he wants to have it hanging or standing in his room.

Dylan Borchert: Coil Flowerpot

This bright blue flowerpot will take Dylan about 10-12 class periods to finish. When he is done, the flowerpot will be fully functional and his mother will be able to use it at home.

Jacob Mueller: Crappie (fish)

Again, if you know Jacob, you know he would pick either a fish or animal to create. Although it is hard to see in the picture, Jacob made a crappie. His crappie will take him about 20-25 class periods to finish.

Alec Gratz: Assorted Cups

Alec made these cups on the wheel; a skill that not everyone has. He can make at least one cup a day, but then they take time to dry. It takes about 5 days to dry each cup. Alec wants to glaze these cups and then use them to drink juice. When I asked him about these cups he responded with,"Don't you ever just wish that you had a huge cup to drink juice from?" Mr. J responded to this statement with,"Ceramics makes dreams come true."
