What Would the World be Like if it Ran at 5 Frames per Second? (Part 1- Space)

      Greetings and Salutations! The other day, I was surfing the interwebs, as one does these days, when I stumbled upon a video that was...not good. The shots were shaky, the audio wasn't synced, and interestingly, the FPS(frames per second) of the video was...5. For those who don't know, five frames per second is very low. For instance, the 1930s era saw FPS of 14-26, far above the 5 frames per second in the video I watched. Another interesting tidbit is that the eye can differentiate frame rates up too 150FPS, with the max it can detect being around 1000. During the film, there was times when limbs would teleport several inches, or even at times feet, which brought about an interesting idea. What if everything was in 5 FPS. Not just how our eyes see things, but things actually move at 5 FPS. This brings about a multitude of cool things to theorize about in this imaginary Five Frame World.


The Non-Existence Gap

      In this world, matter only exists 5 times every second, with the gaps evenly distributed throughout the second. This means that the entire world has a "refresh rate" of 20 milliseconds. However, we also need to factor in the amount of time the world exists, which we'll keep at 1 millisecond. This means that there is 5 milliseconds of what we'll call "pocket time" in our universe, where everything exists. This world that we have created has some interesting concepts, however; before we delve into them, we have to establish some other rules for our pocket universe. What I mean by this is that there is actually dozens of ways for this Five Frame World to exist. For example, in one version, force also doesn't exist during the 20 millisecond gap, or the "Non-Existence Gap". In this universe there is almost no noticeable differences from our own, except that to an outside observer, like us, it seems that people only move extremely slowly. Those inside of the universe actually wouldn't notice this "change in frame rate". But we want the cool teleportation and choppiness, so in our model, force is excluded from non-existence in the Non-Existence Gap. This means that during the Non-Existence Gap, matter will still move with its applied force, while not existing. 
      Here's an example, called the "Apple in your Hand" theory, aptly named, as you'll see. When you are gripping an apple, you are actually constantly exerting force on the exterior of the apple through your fingers. If the apple didn't exist, then your hand would close. At the same time, gravity is also exerting force on the apple, pulling it downwards. If your hand wasn't there, the apple would fall towards the ground. Now, during the Non-Existence Gap, neither your hand, nor the apple exist, but at the same time, the forces applied to your hand and the apple still exist. This means that the position of the matter of the apple will change, since your hand doesn't exist to hold it. Gravity will pull the apple down with no other force exerted upon it, right? Wrong, or should I say, maybe? 
      Not only does the force of gravity still exist during the Non-Existence Gap, the force your fingers were exerting on the objects also exist. That means that the force you were using to keep the apple in the air if still applied, but, only the current force you had applied during pocket time would remain in effect on the apple, since during the Non-Existence Gap, your fingers don't exist to put more upward force into the apple, whereas the pure force of gravity does exist, and is constantly exerted (Kind of, more on that later). This means that the apple wouldn't move for however long the upward force you exerted on it could counteract the force of gravity. Of course this means that the upward force exerted on your arm would also eventually fail to gravity and move downwards. This means we have to make another judgment call and put a new rule into place so we can keep going. The rule is called "the rule of objectial force" (and yes I made up the word objectial). What this rule means is that force applied to one's own self is constant throughout the Non-Existence Gap, again, we'll define this more later on, when we understand what's happening a little more.  So, if you were holding the apple perfectly still during that 1 millisecond of "pocket time" then yes, after a small amount of time, the apple would move towards the floor. But, if you were applying any upward force to the apple, it may, or may not, be enough force to counteract the force of gravity. Also, you have to keep in mind that the inward force that was applied to the apple by your fingers still exists as well. So while the apple is falling, there is still an inward pressure applied to the apple, which would also change how it would fall, depending on how much and where the force is applied. Likewise, just as the positioning of the apple would change, so would the positioning of your hand. The fingers of your hand would all slightly bend inwards, due to the force applied to them to grip the apple, and your whole hand would also move upward or downward extremely slightly. 
      And, you may say, "Your arm is always moving up or down!" and you'd be correct. However what I mean by including this movement is that not only did it change positions, it changed positions in a different way than it would have during "pocket time" "Why would my hand move upward? I'm not applying force to move my hand upward." you may ask. The answer is where things start to get complicated. Whenever your hand is in the air and not supported by a table or any other object, you are actually applying upward force in order to keep your arm from going towards the ground, again thanks to our good ole' friend gravity. Keep in mind also that during the Non-Existence Gap, not only do the apple and your hand not exist, all the air particles around you don't exist as well. This means that there is no air resistance during the Non-Existence Gap. Why would a lack of air resistance move your arm upward? Well, you see, when you are holding your arm in the air, you can notice that it's never really still. It's actually moving at all times, and all things that move in the air are subject to air resistance. That means that your arm requires more force to go up during the "pocket time" then during the Non-Existence Gap. This means that if while your arm is moving up and down, when the Non-Existence Gap hits it will move much farther upwards or downwards then it would have during "pocket time." 
      Now if you can remember everything we've talked about and put them together, you'd realize that what we've ended up with is an apple that is in your hand. Not "in your hand", but "in your hand." Your hand and the apple actually inhabit the same space. Now we've stumbled upon the biggest problem in this universe that we need to solve, what happens when different matter inhabits the same space? Of course, no matter how we solve this problem, this universe can't really be viewed as a whole, but only as multiple exact instances, since as a whole, the universe would collapse on itself. However, by using exact instances, like a hand holding an apple, we can use this universe to theorize about our own.

Why Too Much Matter In Space Matters

      So, this first problem is really the biggest and hardest to understand. In order for matter to inhabit the same space as other matter, we only have few options. One way is to essentially make a pocket dimension for every point of matter intersection. Using this, every "atom" (I'm using atom as a stand in for the smallest denomination of matter, probably quarks, but I didn't feel like googling it. Is it googling or Googling? Whatever.) in the universe is given a number from 1 to however many atoms there are in the universe. This number is essentially that atoms "importance" when compared to other atoms. Whenever two atoms meet, the atom with the higher number, the one with "least importance", is "phased", for a lack of better terminology, into its own pocket dimension that is technically different space, but space that exists alongside our universe. 
      When this is put into application in our hand and apple example, we can see how this will affect the universe. Excuse me for getting all mathy on you, but imagine that that the apple is one graph, while your hand is another. The point of intersection would be where the apple and your hand exist in the same space. So every atom in the apple that has the same position as an atom in your hand has its number compared to its counterpart atom in your hand. The atom that has the highest number is instantaneously phased to its own pocket dimension, where it is still moving through our space, but not on the same "plane of existence" as the other atoms that are in that same space. Of course, there can be an infinite amount of pocket dimensions in one spot at the same time, so it doesn't matter if you are a living math problem and have 300 apples and you're giving 10 of them to Beth, Ross, and George. 
      So, if you could pause the universe while the apple and hand were in the same spot, and you could change your "camera angle" to look at the inside of where the hand and apple met, you would see that some of the atoms in that blob were in the apple, while some where actually from your hand. If course, that's just the view from the "base dimension", the view is different in each consequent dimension. All of these atoms were essentially randomly decided upon as to which went to a pocket dimension and which did not. However, at the same time as it is random, it is also not random, since atoms do not change their inherent value, therefore an atom with the assigned number of 1 will never go into its own pocket dimension, whereas the last numbered atom will constantly enter and exit pocket dimensions. Understand so far? Good, because that's just the basis for how our universe will work. In our universe, objects have values instead of atoms. Not only that, but the values of objects are constantly changing, since different "objects" are created, destroyed, and changed. This ties into the "rule of objectial force" we were talking about earlier. Not only does every object have a number, it also has a definition. For instance an object could be your body, but another object could be your hand, which is part of the object of the body, but also its own object. 
      This is where we separate the men from the boys (or women from the girls). Let's break this concept down. Let's say that you are the most important thing in this universe, ranked at 1. That's all well and good, but what happens when one part of your body goes up against another? The solution is actually very elegant. Decimals. Say your friend Bobart is the second most important thing in the universe, 2. That means that the number 2 is taken. Your hand, which is less than 2, since it outranks Bobart, meets your head, which is also less than 2, and your hand goes into a pocket universe (Hand In The Pocket Theory. Pun intended). This means that the value of your hand is less than 2, but more then the value of your head. Let's give your head the value 1.1 and your hand the number 1.6. That part isn't too bad, just math right? We all did it in 3rd grade, 1.6 is higher than 1.1 and so on. 
      The part that's really hard to grasp is the sheet number of "objects" and how they are connected. For example, a foot is less important than a hand, but a leg, an object that contains the foot, is more important than a hand, and an arm, which includes the hand, might still be less important than a leg, even though it includes the foot, which is less than the hand. That's complicated, and we are only using general statements like "hand" which is actually composed of bone and skin and germs and veins and blood and thousands of other things. 
      This is where the rule of objectial force comes into play. We can say that any force exerted on an object by the object itself remains constant during the Non-Existence Gap. So any force exerted on your body by your body remains constant during the Non-Existence Gap. The same thing happens with gravity. Since gravity is a universal force, it's always exerting force on itself, the universe, so it remains constant. 
      One last concept I'd like to cover before we move on is the concept of "importance". How does an object get its assigned importance? Well, in order for that to happen we are going to need an outside "force" to constantly monitor and assign objects, really an impossible task for anyone but God. However we will imagine that we have a machine that does it all for us, according to a set chart for judging importance, such as biological ahead of nonbiological and human ahead of animal, and so on and so on. We will refer to this as our "Machine".

Help! I'm Falling Through The Floor!

      So now that we've defined what happens when matter meets matter, let's talk about the elephant in the room. Why isn't gravity just sucking everyone into the floor? Once again, to solve this we are going to use a little bit of math, and a whole lotta wow. Remember how all objects got a number between 1 and infinity? Well, now we are going to give numbers a value between 1 and zero. Crazy, right? Well, first I should define what these values will mean. Any object that is defined between 0 and 1 also has a number between 1 and infinity. This is because these objects are "floor". Essentially what being a "floor" means is that all force that is applied to you during the Non-Existence Gap is automatically negated by a perfectly equal amount of force, making it so that objects won't phase through anything defined as a floor. The floor values, just like object values are also constantly in flux, but unlike object values, object values might have a floor value and then not have a floor value depending on the situation the object is being used for, making them situational awareness well. 
      Another cool thing we can add to this is "floor integrity". Essentially, the value of a floor is assigned by the max force it can output to negated incoming force. For example, a piece of plywood would be able to exert much less force then a planet. This means that if you apply enough force to the plywood, maxing out its negatable force, it loses its floor value in that situation. We'll define the strength of an object as higher towards 0, meaning values closer to 0 are stronger then values closer to 1. This is called the "rule of floors"(my naming game is on point today). Simply put, the way this applies to the Earth is that, sure, you could phase an object though the Earth, if you put in enough force to cancel out the mass of the Earth, which is not very likely. Again our nifty little "Machine" calculates all the floor values and max forces constantly. Thanks Machine, you're the best.

And Now, The Hard Part

In case everything else in this universe wasn't confusing enough, we have to wrestle with something that even sounds difficult. What are the connections between matter in pocket dimensions, and how does force act on them? At this point, I'm pretty sure we're going to need way more degrees then I have, which is to say more than my impressive zero, to really bite into this chunk of theory-thick meatloaf. But, I've got nothing better to do, so I might as well give it a try. 
      So, first, let's try to break down this question. Essentially what it's asking is, after your hand and the apple separate into different dimensions, does it keep falling through your hand, does it stop, did it return to its original position, what happens? Well, that answer to that question tears reality in half. Literally. The way to solve this problem is by cutting reality into infinite versions, just like your favorite comic book. These new realities are often called "alternate realities". Essentially in this theory, every time you make a decision, a new reality is formed, with the only difference being that you made a different decision. An infinite amount of decisions means an infinite amount of realities. 
      But how does that translate to our conundrum? Well, this time we have to use an even simpler version of our apple and hand theory, it's called the apple, the rock and the really big rock theory. The big rock is basically the moon, a floor with a very high level of strength, let's call it a "near zero floor", the other rock is just a cubic rock with a side of a meter or so. On top of that rock is an apple. Now we know that the slab won't sink through the moon, because of its like floor rating (remember, low means strong). Now, in this situation, let's say that the Machine determined that the slab has no floor rating, and the apple is being pulled by gravity to go through it. The apple phases through, and now it has matter in a pocket universe, since the slab has a lower importance rating (again, lower means more important). So when this happens, the universe is split into multiple realities. 
      We'll focus on just two for now, Bob and Sink. Basically, we are treating an object entering the pocket dimensions like an object entering a pool. There is essentially 2 ways an object will respond. It will either keep going down, Sink, into the water, in this case the pocket dimension, or it will Bob, continuously being expelled by the pocket dimension, only to fall in over and over again. However, we'd prefer not to have our nice little universe fractured into an infinite number if realities, so we'll define another number to every object in our universe. This time we will assign everything a negative number between negative one and negative infinity. However, these numbers with differently than the other, positive values. These negative numbers aren't comparative qualities, they're comparative chances. The closer the number is to negative one, the higher the chance it will Bob, and the closer the number is to negative infinity, the higher the chance it will sink. Looking at these numbers, you will notice that objects in our universe have the tendency to Bob more than they do to Sink, since all numbers are closer to negative one then negative infinity. However, these chances are comparative, so any object could Sink at any time, no matter it's number. And again, all of this data is monitored and assigned by our Machine. 
      Of course, those two only happen if matter inhabits the same spot during pocket time. There is a 3rd option. I call it Assimilation. Here's what it means. Remember steel, that one thing that exists? Well, it's actually a blend of other stuff, mostly iron and carbon. The two are mixed together to become one object. The same can happen to two objects during the transition from the Non-Existence Gap to pocket time. At the end of the Non-Existence Gap, matter might have phased through another object and found a gap in that object to fill, hence it Assimilates, like MVL water in normal water. Objects are given an Assimilation value between negative 1 and zero, with values closer to zero having a higher chance of Assimilating then numbers closer to negative one. And, repetitively, it's all calculated by our Machine.

Are We There Yet?

      And with that, we have a better overview of how things work in this Five Frame Universe. I'll give you some time to take it all in and grok the ideas before I move on to time, how people would live in this universe, and applications, if there are any, to our world.
