NHS Highway Cleaning

Written by Mackenzie Helget
On September 29th MVL's National Honor Society members had the opportunity to give back to our community by cleaning our roadside ditches! 13 of our dedicated NHS members skipped a Saturday morning of sleeping in and got to MVL at 9:00 am. Mr. Koepsell then took them to their designated spot in the one and only MVL truck! They finished with a record time of only 2 hours! Here are some of the crazy things they found and a little inside look at how the morning went! Yellow shirts rule!

I: Was this your first time cleaning ditches?

Libby K: Yes.
Christina S: No.
Marshall M: No.
Dylan H: No.

I: Did you have fun?

L: So much fun!
C: Yes!
M: Yes!
D: If freezing your hands off counts then yes!

I: What was the best part?

L: Riding in the truck with Mr. Koepsell.
C: Walking and talking with my friends.
M: The safety video.
D: The combination of cold and wet.

Interviewer: What is the weirdest thing you found cleaning?

L: A crusty dollar bill:)
C: Hubcaps
M: A dead deer.
D: A car’s instrument cluster.

I: Will you do it again in the spring?

L: Ah, probably not. I got my 730 minutes in for volunteer time.
C: Yes.
M: Sure.
D: No.
