A very important factor in your day at school is how much sleep you get the night before. Studies show that the average high school student averages about 7 hours of sleep a night, when they should be getting from 9 to 9 ½ hours of sleep every night.
Now whatever it is that is keeping you up; from studying for that really hard test, to playing a really fun video game for hours on end, it is hurting you in your school day. It is shown that too little sleep does not only affect your education, but also harms you by having an affect on your sleep deprivation, mental well being, anxiety, and low self-esteem. It can also affect your academic performance at school and increase the risk of developing clinical depression.
To better your sleep you could adopt habits such as leaving your electronics out of your room, preventing any light from entering the room, having a set time to go to sleep, or have a one hour period of wind down time to relax your body before bed. Sleep is a very important thing to not take for granted, so take some helpful habits to optimize the amount you get every night, in order to improve your school day.
