Your Student Email Account & You

“New email? What new email?” This is often heard when we, as students, are told to log into the new school email. Luckily, we are here to help!

The student email addresses consist of your first initial, last name, and the year you graduate followed by @mvlhs.org. Please consult the student handbook for password information.

It's a good idea to update your password after you log into your school email. Changing your password cuts down the chances of getting hacked. No one wants the experience of opening their Google Drive and finding everything missing. Or finding out your account got spammed with goat pictures, no matter how cute.

Below are the steps to be taken to change your password:
  1. Log into your Google account.
  2. Click the Apps icon in the upper right (what you would click on to get to your Drive or Gmail).
  3. Click on the ‘Account’ option.
  4. Next, click the ‘Security’ option of the left side of the screen.
  5. Click ‘Password’ in the "Signing into Google" box.
  6. Enter the password you have now.
  7. Finally, you can change your password.

You may think a good password is a hard password, but it won’t do you any good if it’s too hard to remember. Now that you know how to change your passwords, here are some tips on what makes a good password.

Simple- It is easier for one to remember the easier things rather than the challenging ones. The same should be with your password.

Long - The longer your password is, the harder it will be for others to remember it or guess it.

Memorable- A forgotten password is a useless password. Don’t try to make your password something hard to guess but rather something you can remember.

With you knowing about your new email account, we hope teachers will stop getting blank stares when telling their students to log into it. Having this account helps keep everything organized, especially when it comes to schoolwork. Hopefully, this cleared up any confusion you may have.
