The newest painting by MVL's Art Club will be displayed this Friday at the annual Christmas concert. This piece was based off the theme "We Beheld His Glory". Inspiration for the piece came from two main places. The compositions and rendering of the person were from Alphonse Mucha, a Czech artist from the late 1800's, and the background was based on Byzantine Christian art.
This piece started as a few thumbnail sketches which lead to a photoshoot with a baby from a local congregation. That photograph was turned into an illustration which was then projected onto a seven foot custom built wooden circle, which was constructed by Mr. Optiz. It was then painted by 10 students, as well as a few other artists. One of the special features of this painting is its gold spray painted background which shines as the light is reflected off of it. Be sure to walk around and experience the painting in a new light from any angle!
Over 70 hours were needed to take this work from an idea to a center piece for this year's concert, a center piece that hopes to glorify that miraculous moment in which God humbled himself to become both God and man for our salvation.
