The Louvre Museum, located in Paris, France, is beautiful. The Louvre is also the biggest museum in the world! There is an interesting history behind it, especially because the museum wasn’t always a museum. The museum features 7,500 paintings, and most of them are painted by French artists. The Louvre is one of the most popular museums around the world too. It brings in many visitors each day and each year. The museum is beautiful, rich in culture, beautifully filled with paintings, sculptures, artifacts, and more.
The Louvre Museum, which doubles as a historic monument, was built in Paris, France on August 10, 1793. The museum was started by King Francis I, who was an art collector. Pierre Lescot built only part of the Louvre while Francis I was ruling. When the 17th century came around, Louis XIII and Louis XIV constructed major additions to the Louvre. The starting of the Louvre being used as a public museum started in the 18th century. When the 19th century came around, the two wings on the building were completed. The museum had a major change in 1980 so the museum would be more accessible to the public. Sooner or later, the underground basement of shops, offices, storage, and parking were built. Also, an auditorium and cafeteria were constructed. The Louvre Museum was not always a museum but also a storeroom, used by the Nazi’s, for stolen art during World War II.
The museum held different types of paintings like European paintings, Islamic paintings, Assyrian artworks, African artworks, and decorative arts, such as sculptures, pottery, paintings, and more. One of the most famous paintings, the Mona Lisa, is displayed there. The Mona Lisa was painted by Leonardo da Vinci. People think the painting is fairly large when the painting size is really 30 inches by 21 inches. Another artwork we see in history books or have just seen in photos is Venus de Milo. Venus de Milo is an ancient Greek sculpture, made by Alexandros of Antioch. The amazing sculpture was believed to be sculpted from 130-100BC. A very famous piece that is for sure in history books is The Liberty Leading the People by Eugene Delacroix. Delacroix painted himself in the painting as the person wearing a top hat. The Louvre has over 380,000 pieces in the total of the collection. Some of them are not on display.
Many people come to the Louvre Museum. As it is one of the most popular museums. On average, they bring in 15,000 visitors a day and 65 percent of the visitors are foreign tourists. The museum brings on average 10.2 million visitors a year! This museum is #1 to be the most popular and beautiful museum in the world.
The Louvre Museum is very popular for the amazing, beautiful, and magnificent paintings, sculptures, artifacts, and the building itself. Visiting this museum would be a great experience. Studying artwork can take up days, weeks, years, and sometimes decades.

The Louvre is great and can take days just to study an artifact or painting. This museum has many popular paintings that we have seen in books, documentaries, at school, or just somewhere. For instance, the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, The Liberty Leading the People, and more. This is the most popular and visited museum in the world. The Louvre Museum brings in a great amount of visitors. The Louvre Museum would be a great experience to be there because of the beauty and the artworks of others.
