Golf by Linda Liang

The Golf Team is excited to start their new golf season after this cold winter. It will be very nice for golfers to play on the golf course. The Golf Team started 10 years ago. The team has had many players compete at the section level and even one golfer advance on to the State Meet. This year, MVL has 25 golfers in the team (13 guys and 12 girls) ranging from skilled golfers to eager learners. They started practice on April 5th, coached by Mr. Morgan and assisted by Mr. Schone. The Charger had an interview with Mr. Morgan.

 What quality do golfers need?
Golfers need to be very determined to practice long hours. They have to be patient, because many times the ball doesn’t go where you want it. And also to be patient so that your next shot will be better and determined that you will turn it around.
Are new learners free to take part in the team?
Every year we have at least 5-8 people come out for the team who have never played before. Golf is a sport that you can play the rest of your life and enjoy it by yourself, family or friends.
What is practice like and how is the team doing so far?
They hit balls on the driving range. They practice their chipping, pitching and putting and they go out to play few holes. The team has gone out to the course twice and things are getting better.
Can you tell us some interesting facts about the team and your expectations for this golf term?
Boys: We will be looking for new guys to step up and score low for us this season. We lost three quality golfers and will look to underclassmen to fill some of those holes.
Girls: Our girls are solid. We have experience returning in our seniors, juniors, and sophomores and we have some good members of new girls and freshmen. They will compete very well this season and have a lot of fun.
