Record Breaking Super Bowl

Super Bowl LI was a record breaking game. Records were broken and even some made by both teams. Here's a recap of the records.

Coach Bill Belichick broke two records on Sunday with most Super Bowl appearances by a head coach with seven and most Super Bowl wins by a head coach with five.

Tom Brady of the Patriots broke six Super Bowl records and tied one. The records he broke included most Super Bowl appearances by a player with seven, wins by a starting quarterback with five, four Super Bowl MVP awards, 62 attempted passes in the game, 43 completed passes in the game, and 466 single-game passing yards. The record he tied was most wins by a player which he shares with Charles Haley with five.

James White also of the Patriots broke two records and tied two. The two records he broke included points in the game with 20 and receptions in a game with 14. He tied the record for touchdowns in a game with three and single-game two point conversions with one which he shares with teammate Danny Amendola.

As a team the Patriots broke seven records and tied one. They now have nine Super Bowl appearances, largest deficit overcome by a winning team with 25 points, points by a team in overtime with six, 37 first downs in the game, 26 team passing first downs, 93 offensive plays in the game, and 442 passing yards by a team in the game. The record they tied was first down by penalties with four.

Just because the Falcons lost doesn't mean they didn't help break records either. The Super Bowl game itself broke four and tied one. The game had 54 total first downs, 39 total passing first downs, the first Super Bowl to go into overtime, and 682 total passing yards. The record they tied was total two-point conversions in the game.
